“Taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second.”
― Marc Riboud
One of my favorite things in the world to do is capturing an image with my camera, an image I can share, an image that makes someone smile, an image that freezes time for eternity.
I am Rachelle, I have been a photographer for 25 years mostly as a hobby, however I accept paid commissions please contact me for rates and availability. My hope is that these photos can show the variety I can create as your photographer. I enjoy working with people of all ages, and creating heirlooms just for them.

Lighting tips
When I shot this image of Marina I was in Long Beach, Ca. I was using a small Nikon camera and really had no idea how to use it, since it was brand new to me. My daughter, who happens to be the makeup artist for this shoot, had a friend named Dave Feiling, who offered to teach me a few tips on lighting.
I didn't have a reflector to use, and it was starting to get late in the afternoon, So Dave found this piece of wood near the car we were using that had a silver lining on one side. He played with it for a few seconds, and all of a sudden her face lit up. The glow was beautiful. I alway thought that you had to have BIG fancy cameras or a bunch of lighting equipment. Boy was I wrong. (although the big stuff helps me look all professional ) :p
Anyways.. the shots I got from this shoot were pretty amazing and I owed it all to Dave for teaching me lighting tricks, Marina for being so darn cute and My daughter Marisa who brought out beauty in an already beautiful girl.
I have since bought a large 5/1 reflector
2 off camera flashes (OCF)
a continuous lighting set up from Cowboy Studio
a pocket wizard to slave my OCF
a ring light that attaches to my camera
Sony a390 DSLR camera
I have done one night shoot so far, and only used the ring light... more details on that shoot in my next posting.

NIght shoot
This is the amazingly talented Jin N Tonic, model/actress/ and all around badass :) I really love working with her, and her blog is the reason I decided to start this site. I wanted to kind of show what it is I get myself into, and how I learn some of the things I try and learn.
This shoot was arranged by Robert Bejil, a fellow photographer and friend who wanted to try a night shoot. I never really did one, so I asked if I could tag along. After a few more posts on facebook, it turned into an awesome meet n greet with about 10 models and 7 or 8 photographers. All of various levels of skill and talent.
Jin was my first model of the night, and I was using my Sony a390 dslr on manual mode and I really wish I would have saved my settings so I could post them... which I will do from now on. I also had my ring light attached to the lens, I shot this in color and changed it to B&W in editing. This was basically the only image I liked from the whole night.
Needless to say... I will continue practicing night shots using different lighting styles next time.
Thanks again Miss Jin N Tonic... you are a wonderful girl, a great asset to our group (will explain next post) and our new administrator for or Model page on Facebook (will explain next post)

Kern models & photographers
I am so grateful for the KMaP group that I am a part of. I joined the original Kern Models & Photographers group about 2.5 years ago. There were about 356 members at that time from all over Kern County. I would always plan a themed shoot for myself and a model, so that I could build my portfolio. And others would ask if they could join in, so after a while we ended up having a large group of people who wanted to come to one of my shoots. This made me feel so good, I am not the best photographer, with the best equipment or anything, and I felt all these people are so much better than me with their finished photos, I couldn't understand why they wanted to join me.... but I was flattered either way. My first large group shoot was called "7 Deadly Sins" I had 7 models who wanted to portray a sin. I set up the location at my apartment clubhouse (rec room) and I had probably over 15 photographers who came in to shoot. I know that you may think we will all get the same photos, but we really don't. Each photographer has their own style of shooting, and each model will pose or be directed to fit each photographer.
I was later offered to become an administrator for the group , in charge of hosting group events. Themed shoots, where we have specific costumes and props, and meet n greets, where it is mainly to meet new group members and shoot some head shots and portfolio shots to see where everyone is at in terms of desire for what they hope to get out of being in this group. We decided to change the group and become a private and smaller version of the original, because we had so many people who were not participating, or causing issues. We now have 4 administrators and 139 members. Although the group is private, people can be added to the group if they are 1. living in Kern County or nearby areas. 2. either a model, photographer, Makeup artist, hair stylist or fashion stylist. 3. be an active participant, shooting, modeling or doing makeup / hair. 4. NO DRAMA
If you are interested in learning more about our group, click the logo and it will take you to our web page. You can also contact me on Facebook and request membership to the group, only request... have an open album showing your work, or have a fan / business Facebook page. The following images are from several group shoots we have had these past few years.
